Fermion is having head office in Finland and has two manufacturing sites, Hanko and Oulu, and a bench scale unit in Espoo. Fermion Oy was set up in 1970 as a 50-50 joint venture of Rikkihappo Oy (the current Kemira Oyj) and Orion. It aimed to manufacture penicillin and semi-synthetic antibiotics refined from it in Finland as well as certain synthetic active ingredients for export. Fermion is also known as a manufacturer of many generic active ingredients, specialising in cancer medication.
